Femtosecond-Laser Presbyopia reversal

Getting to the root of presbyopia

Current options for correcting presbyopia are limited. None are perfect and no method directly impacts the source of the problem: the aging and hardening crystalline lens.

Our approach to correcting presbyopia is aimed at restoring natural accommodation by making the eye's lens more flexible with a femtosecond laser (femto-lentotomy).

Femto-Lentotomy does what corneal procedures cannot: it enables the recovery of true dynamic accommodation. Our LenSurgeon creates micro-cuts that act as sliding planes and reduce the inner friction of the crystalline lens tissue and, as a consequence, restore its flexibility.

First clinical trials have demonstrated a good safety profile with femto lens softening. Further studies are now underway to optimize the procedure. We expect to regain an accommodation ability of significantly more than 1 diopter. This will not completely correct presbyopia, but it will reduce it so that reading glasses are no longer necessary.
